NJ Textile Company - With labor
contract negotiations not progressing well, the
company attorney suggested hiring
Applegate Associates to conduct a safety audit to ensure that the
company was in compliance with OSHA standards. Based on the
findings of that audit, Applegate
developed a safety program and trained management supervisors in
implementing the program. Two weeks after, OSHA made an inspection.
Result - The safety violations revealed and remedied by the Applegate
audit would have carried penalties of up to $100,000. The company
received only four minor citations with penalties of only $5,300.
NJ Contractor Working Out of
State - An OSHA 11C complaint was filed by a union laborer against
a NJ contractor working in Ohio. On behalf of the contractor, Applegate
interceded with OSHA and prepared the defense case. Result - OSHA
dropped the charges calling them 'unsubstantiated'.
